New Introductions

I’ve been reading for years. Not because I had to but because I wanted to. I would read during summer breaks from school, on the bus, on the train (back in my NY days) just for the simple bliss of escaping my dismal Urban City life to travel the French Riviera, back in time, England, the islands, where ever it was I loved it.

Of course with age my reading patterns has changed, as well as my craving for certain authors. Now I know some authors have been writing for a very long time, and I never really thought to give them the time of day, but here lately in the on-line book club I’m apart of I’m receiving a bag full of new authors. Not new to the business of writing, but new to my reading cravings.

In the last six months, I’ve been introduced to Pearl Cleage (Seen It All and Done The Rest), Carleen Brice (Orange Mint and Honey) with her she mainly wrote non-fiction, but her first fiction book beautiful. ReShonda Tate Billingsley (I Know I’ve Been Changed and a couple others I have on my TBR pile), Victoria Christopher Murray (Joy…I will definitely indulge in more), Rochelle Alers (Secrets Never Told, Lessons of a Lowcountry Summer…can’t wait to read more.) I just opened the pages to Diane McKinney-Whetstone for the first time and I can see she writes in a style I’m sure to like. When I’m finished reading Trading Dreams as Midnight, I may have to venture out and find some of her earlier works to entertain my cravings for words on paper.

As I get introduced to these wonderful authors, I introduce them to my mother and anyone else I know can appreciate a good book like I can. Now we as human beings can sometimes be as selfish as ever, but make the first step today to a different you, a different world. Share an author you have discovered to be fining dining in reading, with someone you know will love it. First, share one here, you never know you might open up someone’s eyes to something new and different.

I'll share an author I think people are sleeping on. He was introduced to me by Yasmin. Drumroll please...lol Naa, just kidding!

For real...the world is sleeping on Dywane D. Birch. I read 3 of his books and only one was alright. The other two were awesome, so two out of three is damn good.

Shattered Souls (I rated a 5 on amazon.com)

From My Soul to Yours (I also rated a 5, and he got five 5 star ratings out of 6 reviews...I'm telling you DON'T SLEEP) This one is also a BAB!!!

I also read his novel, When Loving You is Wrong, but I rated it a 3. I'm going to pick it back up. I think it was the first book of his I read.

You should check him out!

I guess I need to check him out one day.

This is the third time you have said something to me about him.

I wonder does Mr. Birch need a PR person? You'd be great for it.

LOL with you and Darnetta...and yes Dywane needs to pay Darnetta...and Jennifer I'm glad you've met some new authors--that you enjoy--via APOOO. I love hearing members say we've exposed them to new authors for their repetoire.

I discovered Kwame Dawes a year ago. I had seen his name around for years and always associated him with poetry. His writing is quite poetic and mesmerizing.

You sure did get me and a few others excited about his novel. I loved it.

Hi JC! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Not really knowing what your reading tastes are but guessing based on the authors you mentioned, I've got two more for you to try out: Marilynn Griffith and Claudia Mair Burney.

Well, really I've got a host of authors for you to try but I'll pass them on a few at a time!

Hey Patricia thanks for coming over and adding to the list of authors I will need to tryout.

I like pretty much everything. I don't do too much urban, but I will try any genre at least once.

Is there such a thing as reading too much? LOL

Hey, Patricia, I've read two of Marilynn Griffith's books. Tangerine and Jade. They were great. I posted reviews for those on Amazon under my real name, Jennifer Coissiere.

You mentioned some great authors in the post. Carleen Brice was new for me as well and also an APOOO suggestion that I might have missed otherwise. It's great to be surrounded by diverse readers...you never know where you'll end up!

Well said Michelle. Diversity is good.

I saw your post on Patricia's blog and thought I'd drop by.

If you liked Pearl Cleage's latest, you MUST read "Some Things I Never Thought I'd Do." She wrote the most fantastic hero, Blue Hamilton.

Love the title of your blog, BTW.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also have a confession for you. I read your blog all the time. You're entertaining.
